The Giver became The Gift

A Christmas card I received this year had the words of Luke 2:11 as its focus….

For unto you is born this day a Saviour who is Christ the Lord…. and it was accompanied by these thoughts by Roy Lessin which are worth sharing:

“God sent us a Saviour. If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator. If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us a scientist. If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist. If our greatest need had been pleasure, God would have sent us an entertainer. But our greatest need was forgiveness, so God sent us a Saviour.”

These words had that increasingly rare effect of startling me into some serious thinking. The Christian understanding of Christmas is indeed complex but it is never convoluted and in a nutshell it is this:

The Giver became (and remains) The Gift, which when understood is precious and when received is cherished. That is why I can wish you all a truly Happy and Joy-Filled Christmas.
